June 1 marks the beginning of LGBTQ Pride Month, usually celebrated with street festivals, events and parties. The first Pride was a protest outside the Stonewall Inn in New York in 1969, led by Black transgender women.

In 1972, just three years after the Stonewall riots in New York City, a festive group of between 250 and 300 people in Dallas gathered to show their LGBT+ pride. They marched through downtown Dallas, waving signs and chanting gay rights slogans before a crowd that grew to about 3,000.Today, the Dallas Pride Parade now has over 50,000 people in attendance.
